Colour Separation Services for Screen Printing

Print-Ready Separations. Perfect Registration. High-End Results.

Screen printing is an art, but preparing the artwork is a science. At Dream Embroidery, we take the headache out of pre-press. We provide high-quality colour separation services for screen printing, helping print shops in the UK, USA, and Australia achieve stunning results on press.

Stop wasting hours in Photoshop trying to pull channels. Whether you need simple spot colors for a vector logo or complex simulated process separations for a photorealistic design on black tees, our experts handle it all. We deliver files that burn perfectly onto your screens.

Our Specialized Separation Techniques

Different designs need different separation methods. We master them all.

1. Spot Colour Separation (Vector)

Ideal for logos and solid illustrations. We separate each color into its own layer/channel. We include trapping (choking and spreading) to ensure that even if your press shifts slightly, no white gaps appear between colors.

2. Simulated Process Separation (High-End)

Want to print a photograph or complex artwork on a black t-shirt? This is our specialty. We use Simulated Process separation to break down the image into a specific set of Pantone colors (usually 6-10 colors) using halftones. The result? A vibrant, photorealistic print on dark garments.

3. CMYK Separation (4-Color Process)

Perfect for printing photographs on white or light-colored garments. We separate your image into Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black channels. We carefully adjust the curves to ensure the final print doesn't look muddy.

4. Index Colour Separation

For designs that need a lot of colors but no halftones (stippled look). We convert the image into a limited color palette using diffusion dither, making it easy to print without worrying about moiré patterns.

Why Screen Printers Outsource to Us?

We understand the press. We don't just separate; we engineer the file for printing.

  • Registration Marks Included: We provide print-ready files with registration marks, center lines, and label text on every channel.
  • Halftone Mastery: We set the correct LPI (Lines Per Inch) and Angles based on your mesh count (e.g., 45-55 LPI for standard jobs). No more moiré issues!
  • Underbase Creation: Printing on dark shirts? We create a solid White Underbase channel to make your top colors pop.
  • Fast Turnaround: Send us the file today, and get the separations back by tomorrow morning. Keep your presses running!

From Artwork to Film Positive

We make the pre-press process seamless:

  1. Send Your Art: Upload your high-resolution Raster (PSD/JPG) or Vector (AI/EPS) file.
  2. Tell Us Your Specs: Let us know your maximum color count (e.g., "I have a 6-color press") and garment color.
  3. We Separate: Our experts manually separate the channels in Photoshop or CorelDraw.
  4. Print Ready: You receive a DCS 2.0 EPS, PDF, or PSD file containing all channels, ready to print onto your transparency film.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What file formats do you accept for separation?
We prefer high-resolution files (300 DPI or higher). PSD (Photoshop), AI (Illustrator), PDF, and EPS are best. We can work with JPG/PNG, but higher quality inputs give better prints.

Q: Do you provide the White Underbase?
Yes! For any job going on a dark garment, we automatically generate a White Underbase and a Highlight White channel to ensure the design looks bright and accurate.

Q: Can you handle Simulated Process for black shirts?
Absolutely. Simulated process separation is our most popular service for merchandise and band t-shirts. We can separate complex images into 4, 6, 8, or 10 colors depending on your press capacity.

Q: What if I only have a 4-color press? No problem.
Just tell us your limit. We will combine colors and adjust the artwork to look as good as possible using only the number of screens you have available.

Q: Do you set the Halftone Frequency (LPI) and Angles?
Yes, we can rip the halftones for you if you request it. However, most printers prefer the raw channels so they can apply their own LPI settings in their RIP software. We can provide either—just let us know your preference.
